What is Modulus Research?

Having competed in regional and international science fairs in high school where the vast majority of students who had access to research materials were from specialized schools, our team realized the great neglect of resource distribution and outreach in schools without codified research programs. That’s why, as undergraduate students, we wanted to draw on our previous experience and develop open-courseware for students who want to pursue research and yet don’t necessarily have those resources in their communities.

Our mission is to attempt to close the gap in STEM education in NYC middle/high schools by specifically fostering a passion for research. The goal of the initiative is to host research seminars at schools absent from citywide fairs and support students to pursue the following:

  • Apply to institutional labs (supported by our cover letter writing and resume writing workshops)

  • Write research papers for submission to competitions

  • Design research posters/slides for presentation in science fairs

  • Deliver research presentations for science fairs or class assignments

  • Deliver elevator speeches on research in an effective, and comprehensive manner
